I just got and hooked up my new Octtopus 200 and the water top of the sud level is about 5" below the collection cup. Its sitting in a total of 8.5" of water in the sump of my wet/dry. I know skimmers take a bit to break in but it just seems too low for me. I did the measurement and if I were to put much more water in and the power go out then the sump would overflow. I have a predrilled reef ready with two drains and two 1200 gph returns. On SAturday I will be installing a large CPR refugium ( 31" long ) and putting one of the drains to the refugium and one return in the refugium giving me a 35" wet/dry and a 31" refugium. I know that this will allow more water and slpit the water drain in a power outage and possibly allow a higher water level. Anyway all that being said does this sound normal ? any suggestions ?

there should be a water adjustment device of some kind. i believe on your skimmer, it is the big bar where the water drops back in to your sump from the skimmer. raise that telescoping bar up.

just let it keep running. There is a film that needs to build up on the inside and it may look like it isnt going to fill the cup at all but over time it will. If you are able to adjust it, just watch it closely, because once it does break in some, it could overflow. I dont have personal experience with octopus skimmers, but I believe it can happen with any skimmer.

black riser tube (to the left in the pic. the skimmer output). raise it until the water level(not foam head) is right at the bottom of the collection cup. the foam head will then build up in the collection cup tube and eventually produce skimate. octopus take anywhere from 4 days to 2wks to break in. you raise and lower that tube to adjust water the water level as needed
