I'll be taking everything out of my 46g and moving it into a 90g. How exactly do I do this? Don't I have to wait for the new tank to cycle before I can add fish, etc? What's the process?

I went from a 55g to a 75g to finally a 90g…I filled the new tank ½ with new mixed saltwater (easier to work the rock if the tank isn’t full) …First I removed the rock from the old tank and put it in the new tank with more CURED live rock. Then I put the fish in tubs with a heater if needed and a power head ( hard to catch fish with rock to hide in) . Then add the sand from the old tank and some more LIVE sand to the new tank. Finish filling the tank with saltwater from the old system and finished topping it off with the new saltwater mix.
There is very little good bacteria in the water so you can skip that step..It was something however that I did.
When everything is settled re-acclimate your fish to the new tank. Acclimate like they are new from the fish store.
Even though you have used rock and sand from the old set-up this is a new system… for example, the tank won’t cycle but it is not stable enough for an anemone that needs at least a 6+ month old mature tank system
Once again, I forget not all folks have a well turned over sandbed....I'm so glad you pitched in
..Your right, if you don't have a sand sifter that keeps the sand turned over, you could have a problem if you stir it up...So if you don't have a sand sifter RINSE the old sand in saltwater before adding it to the new system.

The tank has been up and running for nearly 3 years.
I would buy new sand and just take a cup of the old sand and spread it around. Yes you can rinse it but that is too much work for me.
