Did anything change in your tank? Are you using unfiltered water? Do you have any idea why algae just suddenly started growing?

Don't scrape the algae with a toothbrush. Chances are you will only spread it. If you can, siphon as much out as you can and do another water change if it keeps getting worse. It will probably go away on its own now that you have your skimmer back up but you may want to cut down on your lighting in the mean time...

That sounds pretty good, but if the algae gets worse you might want to temporarily drop it down more until the skimmer gets everything back under control. Do you use filtered water? What are your nitrate and nitrite levels? Low SG can also cause algae.

I'd say you most likely have phosphates and silicates in your tap water and your skimmer is doing everything it can to clean the water for you... If you can't get a reverse osmosis filter yet, then consider getting "The tap water filter" from Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. You REALLY should not use tap water on a saltwater tank. Most tap water also has trace amounts of copper in it which is lethal to invertebrates. It will only get worse over time.

You will get better answers if you start your own thread and post this question again.
