It sounds like you are well on your way. What kind of water are you using? Salt? I would buy some base rock and live rock NOW. You can and should get uncured liverock. It is cheaper and will be all you need for a cycle. Don't let your ammonia get too high when you do this. What kind of clowns do you want? Clowns are awesome and hardy. Good Luck.
BTW...we'll get a mod to move this for you. You will get a bunch of answers in new hobbyists.

Hello and Welcome Sabrina

I would go ahead and get the live rock and put it in there. Give the tank plenty of time to cycle and settle in before you rush to put any fish in there, and even then, go slow. It would depend on the type of some of that equipment, but if you got all of that new for 1200, I think you did okay...

Good luck, and let's see some pics when you have it all up and running.

....and I agree with PEZ, I would send a message to a Mod and have them move this thread for you over to the "new hobbyist". You will get more response. The "aquarium" is where we talk a bunch of junk, not the important stuff like you have here

BTW...I'm T316 "with 3"
(kids, I assume you are talking about)

lol, new it wouldn't be that bad.
What you need to do is get on line and find your local reef club, and check craigslist, you'll find lr out of other peoples tank, that typically goes for 2-3 bucks vs 5-8 bucks like you'll see in a store.
Then fill er up.

excellent suggestion

LR from a preestablished tank is already cured and it is a lot cheaper.
This means that your cycle will not last for very long at all and you will have good LR for not a lot of money. If you don't have luck with this, go for uncured LR. The cycle will take longer this way though. The rock at my LFS is 8 bucks a pound which really adds up when you consider that you will be wanting 55 to 80 pounds of LR.

thats perfectly fine sabrina, sounds like you got a nice deal, as for the live rock, id recommend around 60lbs of it, if you have the patience, id suggest 30lbs of base rock an 25-30lbs of cured live rock

Sabrina: Welcome to Saltwaterfish.com!
Our Aquarium Forum is actually for non-hobby related discussions, so, since you said you were new to the hobby, I'm going to move your topic over to our New Hobbyist forum.

sabrina, the only problem with using the dry base rock is your cycle can take longer to complete itself than if you use nothing but cured live rock, but, it can be cheaper doing half base and half live simply because dry base is just not nearly as expensive as live rock is lol
