Maybe someone else will email you now that you posted your address if you ask.
Post as much detail about your system and whats in it and what you test and the readings and any thing esle you can. If its a mystery to your LFS then you may not solve it here ether. When did it start ,ect. ect. ?

Toadstool, just so you know, this isn't a chat room. The people that will help you come across your thread and answer your questions. It will sometimes take some time to get a reply.
That being said, we cannot see your tank so we need a description of the tank, what you do to/with the tank, what's in the tank etc...
And most importantly, what is your question... How did it get there? How do I get rid of it? is it normal? what exactly are you asking?
There is a lot of info on these boards and we obviously love to talk about tanks and such, but you hafta be patient with us also...

What color is the algae?? Green or brown??
Lemme tell you some things that can cause algae and tell me if any of these apply to you...
Adding liquid foods or trace elements such as iodine or any other.
Tank recieves sunlight.
Old bulbs.
overfeeding.
to many fish (although that does not appear to be your situation)
Oh yeah, tap water will cause algae. The stuff you put in makes the water safe for the fish, but it does not remove crucial elements such as lead, copper, iron. (Iron is a fertilizer for greens...Your grass, your plants...algae!)
Do any of these apply to you??

Well since we can't find the source, here is what I think you should do...
Do a 20% water change, put about a half a pound of rinsed carbon in a mesh bag and put that in a high flow area.
Tomarrow, do another 20% change and change out the carbon.
Carbon will adsorb the algae particles that are to small to be caught with a filter.
Do this for a few days and if the problem shows no improvement, then we may hafta go a chemical route.
