i also posted this in the new hobbiest forum but got no responses....
today i set up a new 50g...it has been a while since i have cycled a tank and i am a little unclear on a few things....first thing is should i have my hob filter and powerhead turned on from the jump? my tank is a white out...you can't see anything...i dumped in some live sand and since then it is soooo cloudy...i know this will go away but until it does should i have everything except for my heater turned off? i am afraid my hob and skimmer will get ruined from having all that sand getting inside of it...

Let the sand settle a bit and fire everything up........

yeah i was half retarded i guess when i was setting the tank up and i didn't rinse off the sand....so i guess i will be dealing with this problem everytime i move anything around...at least for a while

Live sand should not be rinsed before adding to a tank, so you did the right thing
