help please

hey one of my frist tanks was a 30 gallon with lr and cc i wan to turn it in to a reef with a dsb to do this what will i have to do. i think i will tank a big tube of some sort and put the water a lr and fish that i have in that . take out the under gravel filter and fillstar 3, put the heater and power heads int the tube with the fish and etc. how does this sound, will it work and will the tank cycle again. any help will be great. thanx

In this case you can place your fish and water in the tub as you suggest with the heater and powerhead, and then toss that crushed coral and UGF out the door. You can make some crushed coral balls out of nylons to help seed your sandbed if you like.
Depending on how it goes you could have a mini cycle and or a few larger spikes, hard to tell, hard to answer, every system is different.
Did you find some sand that you like? If so what kind? Did you pick out some lighting sutible for a reef?

The tank may have a small cycle. Save some of that CC in a panty hose and throw it in after the sand is in. It will seed the dead sand.
Just hang your lights over the tub for a few days and check for your spikes in the main tank. Put some peices of LR in there also, it will help to speed it up.
You will also need to keep the temp up. (new heater?) I always run two under powered heaters incase one fails. (thats another story)
