i hope its a pretty hardy fish. and yes, after a few days sometimes couple weeks, levels of ammonia and nitrite will come to zero and nitrates will raise. do you have any live rock? that works much bettter to cycle a tank imo. and it provides anoxic zones to reduce the nitrates.

its a damsel fish and no i dont have any live rock yet but i plan to get some so i dont need to use any chemicals to lower the ammonia or anything

no you dont need any chems to lower ammonia because you should have waited to put fish in there.
Im sure the LFS told you to cycle it with damsels...you should have researched first.
oh well...live and learn.
here Nitrogen cycle

welll.... you were supposed to wait and use test kits to monitor the quality of the water..... after two weeks i doubt that was sufficient.
Cycles can take along time.... cycles can be short also
My cycle took about a month... then i have had one take 8 weeks
what i would sugest doing is purchasing a product called....
Fritz Turbo start 9000
This is like a super cycle in a bottle. Its refrigerated and $45 at most LFS (if they even stock it)
basically it will add all the beneficial bacteria you need to cycle your tank.... it guarantees safe levels within 3 days.

Easy fish-less cycle in 2 weeks or less:
live rock, live sand, water...add pure ammonia...test daily. 14 days or less your parameters will be at 0 and no fish are harmed at all.
All my tanks cycled this way. :D
