I have an 8 gallon Bio-Cube with a peppermint shrimp and some coral. A few minutes ago i rearranged some of the coral. A few mins later i heard poppin comming from the tank. Sounded like a shell or something was hitting the tank. I looked around but the 2 hermits where not near the glass. I sat back down and heard it again. I started worrying the glass was cracking but on further inspection noticed something. Something was under a LR with coral on it and when it came near the glass there was that poppin sound. Pretty sure its a Mantis :scared: . I think he was trapped and was trying to get out. I have had the tank for a few months and have never seen him before. What should I do :help:

There are commercial traps, or you can take a soda bottle (clean), put some bait in it and put it in the tank. The theory is that the shrimp can get in but can't find his way back out once he is in there.

I always see the mantis under one certain rock. Does that mean he lives in it? Might he live under it? Which is more likely?

I read in another post that someone soak the rock in freshwater and the mantis came out. Can I do that with some hairymusroom on the rock? for how long? What are the chance it will work?

What you need to do is go get a water bottle, cut the top off (Right were it starts to curve inward) then you need to put some frozen brine shrimp in the bottle. Then put to part that you cut off back onto the bottle but up side down. Then put the hole that leads into the bottle right next to the hole/rock where you say the manis is. I did this with my mantis and it took literally 2mins for him to go in there. Once he is in the bottle just tank the bottle out.

Ok I thought the mantis was in a piece of LR that has hair mushrooms on it. So when I seen the mantis this morning i snatched the rock out and began probing, freshwater soaking it and running freshwater through it. I found nothing but am now wondering if i have killed my mushrooms. So now i got a bottle in the tank with a silverside in it and a few pieces of freeze dried shrimp. just waiting.
I AM SERIOUSLY MAD!! GRRR
 he has popped on my tank over the last few days I bet a hundred r more times!!!!!!!!!!!!
