Help! Porky won't eat!

porky puff

New Member
I recevied my porky puffer a week and a half ago from swf.com but neither him or the hawaiian spotted puffer is eating. I tried feeding them flakes, brine shrimp, blook worms, cut up shrimp but they still are not eating. Now, the porky is laying on the sand most of the time.
Any thoughts, I hope they will make it.

I bought my porky at my LFS, they kept her for me for over a month to make sure she was eating good. I think it took her a week or so before she started eating. She started on mysis or brine, I'm not sure which one.
She eats anything for me now. I feed her krill, clams once in a while, mysis, she even eats algae from the clip, loves silversides also.
Have you tried soaking her food in fresh garlic juice? I think they can be tricky to get to eat. Mine was in with some other fish and I don't think she felt safe either.
I just moved her to the 150 after being in QT for a month or so, was nervous about her being with her tank mates, she comes out to eat but then goes in and hides yet.

Sounds like there is a water quality issue/acclimation issue at hand.
How did you acclimate these fish?
What is your pH, kH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, salinity, and temp?

Thanks guys. I will try the garlic trick. I plan on picking up some dried krill. Any shirmp or other foods the new puffers just ignore and all of the other fish jumps all over it. To be honest, I don't check my water as often as I should. Most of the time, I change my water about every two weeks and check my temp, and salinity. what I did notice yesterday is that my purple lobster lost his claws and my brittle star fish has been picked on so badly I can see its spine. I am not sure if its the porky or not. I have seen my Coral Beauty nip at the brittle star. Any more suggestions, I would appreciate.

My Mr. McPuffles will only eat Frozen Krill and live Shrimp, and the occasional Guppy...
Definately try garlic. You might want to invest in some Garlic Extreme by Kent's Marine Co.

Please check your water levels also, that is one way to help insure that they will remain healthy. If they are stressed they will stop eating also. Just a little insurance for all the time and money we spend on our hobby.
Hope they start eating for you soon.
