Ok, first things first. What kind of tank does he want? Corals? Lots of fish with lots of rock? How often can you get over there to maintain?

he wants lots of fish with lots of rock....
also if anyone could help me out with how much LS it would take to fill a 180 gallon with a 3 inch sand bed....also is there a certain brand of metal halide system that is better than the rest, need help with the ballast too....would you say 2-36" actintic strip lights would be better or 2 twin tube 36" atcintic strip lights, i have him set up with an Eco-System with the miracle mud and ect... live rock also? how much do you say it should take....the reason i am having so much trouble with this tank is because i have never set up a reef tank larger than a 90 gallon so everything is on a much larger scale....
and remember....unlimited funds.....
too bad that is'nt true for the rest of us :-(

Ok, coupla things. FIRST of all, if you're using Ecosystem filtration, you do NOT want a 3" sand bed, you'll have a nitrate factory. With Ecosystems, keep the sand bed LESS than 1", decorative only.
You need about 1.5 lbs. of rock per gallon, so you're looking at between 250 and 300 lbs. of rock.
If he wants a lot of fish, then what I would recommend is a good power compact setup, and go with mushrooms and varied polyps. In a tank with lots of fish, you'll have trouble maintaining SPS and other corals, and he'll get annoyed if they die and look lousy. You can't go wrong with mushrooms and polyps. Also consider carefully the fish you choose, you'll want to have lots of shrimp and crabs in there, so keep that in mind.
Since he has 'unlimited funds', do everything SLOWLY, and correctly. Set up your powerheads under rock so they don't show. Buy backups of the powerhead you're running the ecosystem with, in case it burns out.
Get the new titanium heaters, and put them in chamber 4 on the ecosystem. (Always get 2, not one big one).
Keep me posted!

ok the guy just emailed me....it seems he wants to do an semi- aggressive setup, so that means no corals, but he still wants a bunch of LR and he wants the LR to have coralline algea so should I still go with VHO's or a simple metal halide? I dont know how often i will be able to get over there to maintain, and the thing is he wants it all now and it is hard to explain to him that these things take time....lol i also have to do an 90 gallon freshwater setup list tonight and a list for a savannah moniter....
imma be up all night
