hiya dougsback..
we just added 20 snails and we put them on the bottom of the tank. a few we got to stick to the side. just place them shell up and they will do it on their own. but watch to make sure they dont flip over. a daily ritural LOL
ours started moving right away. 20--40 mins

i usually just grab the bunch and drop them in. They can get themselves righside up no problem. mine always start moving right away too. I don't even acclimate them...just open bag and put them in minus the water they came in. Not saying this is the way to do it but i never had one die on me yet

this is not completely true, the Astrea snails can not upright themselves if they flip over, the aquarist has to flip them back over onto there foot or they will drown and die.
But i have tried many ways of acclimating snails from the drip method, floating bag and dumping water in bag, and others. this is the way i have found has been the best way for me. take yourself a empty bowl and place the snails upright in the bowl and let them sit and they will eventually expell water, once this is done you can place them in the tank, on the glass, on rockwork, or on the sand.

True, I lost a Mexican turbo this way. I saw him flipped over and saw him trying to flip himself back over as I turned the lights out. Next morning dead.
