You'll need to at least double the waterflow. A big powerhead or two would be easiest.
It will be OK for a fish only with live rock once you add the extra waterflow. It's probably not going to look very bright with the stock lighting.

What are you planning on keeping?
First things that you'll be switching are the lights and filtration (adding to at least).
It's a good start!

fluor hood would be a trade name for a fluorescent light and either plastic or glass canopy.
you will probably want to add a couple powerheads along with the skimmer. then you are good to go for a fish only 55.

you won't be able to simply change out bulbs to increase your lighting. may will be fine to add corals, if you have the right lighting by then. what corals are you wanting to keep? we could better help you with lighting questions if you had specific corals in mind. the only filters you will need, imo: will be the skimmer you add, the additional flow from powerheads, and some live rock.

For 55g tank I'd recommend getting more LR if you can. Also what type of substrate are you planning on using (clear bottom, crushed coral or LS)?
You should be able to get a pretty good skimmer for your tank for under $150.

a good hang-on-tank skimmer for that tank would be a coralife super skimmer. esu makes a model for up to 65 gallons. this will run you about 100 bucks. for the polyps, zoas, and leather, pc lighting would be adequate. anemones will need stronger lighting such as T-5 or halide.
30 lbs of live rock and 20 lbs of base will be enough...barely. i would go with a little more.
