Xenia is a funny coral. They go into all kinds of different looks sometimes. As long as its alive then it should be fine.

Yes they are wierd like that. Mine that get less light act like that also. Are the shriveled stalks getting good light? At any rate be glad they don't grow too fast, my tank is being over-run, and no one wants xenia at my l.f.s.

they are getting HUGE light at the top of the mountain and I just replaced all my bulbs 4 x 96 2 - 03 & 2 x 10k. I used to run just 2 50/50 bulbs - then bought bulbs. too much light?

Yeah I'm going through some problems with my xenia's right now as well seems like this always happen when summer is approaching. I have one stalk which is looking some of its polyps and the rest are not pulsing as much.

I was having a problem with my pom pom xenia. It was disappearing! I finally saw my purple tang munching on it.
Anyone else ever had tangs eating corals?

i've been keeping these for only a year, but when ever i get my nitrates near zero they start to act funny(they like some pollution). on the other hand when the nitrates are near zero my bta looks alot better. so i would test your water and look back in your logs to see if there is a link to the problem there. just my 2 cents.

Xenia form what I have been told likes a bit of nitrate, and they are known as nitrate exporters. They also like a fairly high PH as well, at least an 8.2 or preferably higher, and somewhat of a nitrate level.

Right on with the PH level Xenia like high PH 8.3 atleast and high alk levels atleast 11dkh I would target that, It is more than likely the problem mine split all the time and don't shrivel up unless I touch or move them. Getting rid of 6 full size frags tommororw
