Help! White Slime

3 days ago I added a maroon clown to my marine tank. Yesterday he developed a white slime on him. What is this?

Does anybody know anything about this? I'm planning on adding another fish today & am not sure if I should.

wait with another fsh until you are sure your clown is ok. if this is a desease, then all your fish is succeptible to it and will soon get infected.
i dont know anything about fish desease [you might want to ask Beth for help] but i wouldn't recomend adding anymore livestock until you figure out this problem.

you can treat him with melafix or pimafix it should clear up.)btw it sounds like body slime its a bactrial infection easily treated with melafix in most cases.I called cant mention site but found that both products are reef safe

the fish didn't have it at the store? How can this develop? It was fine for a few days in my tank then all of a sudden--white slime

somtimes they have the bacteria but no signs for a while when a fish is introduced to new surroundings they become stressed which lowers their abilty to fight off such bacteria strains.

Treated my tank with pimafix last night. My fish guy thought it was a fungal infection. My maroon clown was dead this morning. :mad: Any comments?

yes I did, but I was told that disease is associated w/scales peeling off also. Mine wasn't. I was told it was a fungal infection

My fish guys also says our True Black Percula has a fungal infection (just starting on his tail). He says there's medicines to help fix this that are reef-safe. Is this true?
He said it could also be from the stress of internet-ordering a fish (but this IS my LFS guy, so he's probably talking down internet fish ordering because it's cheaper). Do clowns get a white slime (mine just has it on the tail) from stress?

that's what I'm trying to find out. Mine was fine at the store then 3 days later---boom! Can anyone help us?

What about the pictures? Does it look like that. I feel that from what you describe, it is brooklynella.

Generally, it's my experience that you should disregard anything your LFS says. I love my LFS, but I take everything they say with a grain of salt, and verify with research here or somewhere else. Consider that they are in the business of keeping fish alive TEMPORARILY.

Beth (and many of the more experienced members on this site) are willing to give free UNBIASED opinions.
If you read the link that was posted above, I'm sure it's clear that it was brookynella. I'm sorry to preach, but it frustrates me when people insist on listening to their LFS over the great free, unbiased information provided on this forum...
Ok, I'm off my soapbox. Please don't take it personally!!!

no problem! We only have 1 saltwater dealer that is even remotely close to us, so I have no other place to buy when I need meds right away.
