help with black slimy stuff

got my hair algae under control and almost gone but now this stuff has cropped up . what is it and how do i get rid of it?

From what I have been reading lately it is dying coraline algae. It is becoming a problem in the ocean. search the words "black algae" on the site, one post talked about it, and had an article to hyperlink.
One guy had it on his rock for a long time and it didn't spread so that is a good thing.

i dont think thats what it is it has spread to that size in about a week ant there is strings of it sticking out

I just had the same stuff and it spread quick!we bought red slime remover and put that in which was bright yellow, and it killed it all! I just had to shut the skimmer off for 2 days. everything is good and that stuff is gone!

I have read that cyano can come in black, as well as red, green, and brown. Don't think it's dying coraline-it usually just bleaches white when dead, in my experience.

Ahh, so it was cyano...eww black. Glad all is well now.
