Help with elegance.

I bought an elegance that opened fine for a couple of days and now will not open completely. I usually am concerned prematurely but it has been 2 weeks. Salinity 1.023, CA400, Alk 3.09, pH 8.2, No trates, trites, phosphates, ammonia. I will post a picture as soon as I can.

This tank is only about 6 mo. I have another tank that is almost three yrs old. That system has 2 175 watt MH. So you think that I should move it? I posted a question before about placement but did not get an answer. I did a search and I got different answers about light and water flow.

Most info I've seen indicates these are difficult to keep corals with a low survival rate. Catalaphyllia are often found on the sand bed where they like to bury the cone shaped bottom section. They prefer a low or moderate current and can respond well to direct feedings. My personal experience with these corals has not been positive and I doubt that I'll attempt another. For the most part they do not do well in captive systems...but numerous reefkeepers have had success with them.

I think they're very salinity sensitive.
I've had mine for a few weeks now. It's in the upper half of a 75 tank with 2 175 MHs. It opens fine until I have evaporation problems. My tank usually sits around 1.025, but it goes through about 7-8 gallons of evaporation per week. If I neglect to top off for a few days, my elegance won't open all the way. I've done water tests and have fairly the same readings as you. The only fluc. is sal. So, I'm guessing that the problem.
In summary, I concur with nmreefman. (Yes I did just see Catch me if you can... Do you concur? & you do you concur?:D :D )
Try raising you sal.

Thank you for the help. In the past I have raised salinity by replacing water with saltwater. Is there a quicker way? How long could this take? Will it be fast enough for this coral?

mnreefman - I concur with the aged saltwater.
and I concur with the movie being great.
spyderreef - If you concur than I'm no longer needed here. Carry on! :D :D
LOL that was FUN!
Good luck spyderreef. Let me know how the elegance turns out!
