ok i need help knowing how to stop this or just what it is



it is a reef thank im using hm (on for 9hrs a day) feed the fish and coral every other day with cyclops add 2 part calcium ocean's blend as needed and coralife liquid gold every other day. water is right on the money.

BGA = blue green algae...but its red. Its cyanobacteria not really algae. Are you able to blow it off the rock with a sea squirt or turkey baster? If it looks slimy then that's probably what it is. Usually from not enough water flow, over stocking, or over feeding. I'm having the same problem. Here's a link for more info. It might be what you have.

Depending on that answer, it could also be some red coralline or a red macro algae. If not cyano I would leave it alone and see what develops.

Has it got grape looking things on it, or does it plate off the coral? I have both, and I thin kthe grape one is a species of caulerpa. Its starting to spread alarmingly fast, and showing up in my coral colonies. Im going to have to scraping to do.

i dont think its cyanobacteria its not like a slim its leafy growing from the purple stuff on the rocks.

yes thats what it is.....what makes it grow??? how do you stop it?????
I like it too but not all over every thing does any thing eat it?

Gracilaria macro algae....... Not sure what it feeds on........
By hand.....I dont know if anything will eat,i dont think anything does though.
