I had that problem too. The brown algae (diatoms?) even spread to the sand. It just sorted itself out though. Now most of it is gone.

Ussually takes a couple weeks after cycle to sort itself out. Make sure and check your calcium levels because if its around 400 then the good algae will overtake the bad hope this helps. But this is normal I went through the same thing.

Hey,
I'm not sure how long it will take, but if you're using tap water I think you're asking for trouble. RO/DI water is the way to go IMO. Even people who have been using treated tap water for years will suddenly have problems because the city they live in changed the way they treat the water. To move things along I would do a water change with RO water to get alot of those phosphates out of there.

Has anyone one used RO water from a water store. I really don't want to buy a RO system if I can just go buy it for 25 cents a gallon.

I have been using the stuff from the store for about a year with great results. I would think the stuff from the store would be even better because they use VERY expensive filter processes.

Just a water store that only sell RO water. They usually display there system. Not one of those machine outside a store. The system is very large compared to a home RO system

I have used the machines outside/inside of the grocery stores for about 4 years and have had no problem at all. ONly $.30 a gallon and very convienent, hell the things are everywhere.
They are not distilled but only have about 6 DTS which is pretty good. They do use RO, Microfiber filtration, and UV sterilazation. Pretty good stuff for $.30.
Good Luck!

from my understanding DI is just another form of purification and reduces DTS even more than RO already does. Just plain RO water is sufficient if RO/DI is unavaliable to you.
