Hello,
I have a question with my lunar wrasse! I would like to know if they are reef safe. I read in books and on the net that you should monitor with shrimp but is that it or do they bother coral also? Wanna know for sure before I buy any coral's. I have a few yellow polyps and he dosent seem to be bothering them but just making sure!

they are considered NOt reef safe. However i dont know if they nip at corals.
they grow upo to 10" though.. and somewhat aggressive
I know they tear shrimp apart, and they like to pick on snails (the vulnerable part)

A Lunar Wrasse is not reef safe and can become quite aggressive. I emphasize the CAN because I've had some that were quite pieceful.
This fish will eat any crustations in your tank (maybe not snails.)
As for coral, I do not know, but I have not seen nor heard of them being in any sort of reef tank.
While beautiful, I would steer clear of having this fish in your reef.

Ok thanks for the help. Ill keep a close eye on him and if I see he is destroying stuff ill put him in another tank.

I've had one in my reef for about 3 months now. He shows no interest in corals at all. Also, and I think I'm just lucky with this so far, my cleaner shrimp has been left alone. When I first introduced the wrasse he gave the shrimp a few passes and since then I've had no problem so I hope my lick holds out. Great fish and VERY active!!!

They're mean no matter what size they are! They would consume everything including small fishes. They would not bother corals, but any crustacean (especially mobile ones!) will be a goner in no time.

Yea, wrasses can be tough cookies. I saw one that was so mean at the lfs, bit a poor little baby radiatus lions tail off. The thing was still alive, but now it has to grow a new tail. I still cant figure out how it can bit a baby lions TAIL off (cuz they are really muscular, bit it right down to the base) but watever, i dont like wrasses. Only wrasse for me is a harlequin tusk, and that is DEFNITELY not reef safe, lol.
