Help with new tank

I have a 90 gallon tank that i have cycled for 3 weeks with live sand. I (against my bettor judgement now) used tap water to fill the tank. i put 2 percula clowns in the tank and they have been doing well for 4 days.
The fish are actively swimming and eating, so I think they are healthy. I have the biggest fluval canister filter on the tank.
My question is there seems to be a light flim forming at the top of the tank - it isn't thick, but when you look down into the tank from the top you can see a slight film or discoloration. Is this protein? Do I need a skimmer?

Yes you will need a skimmer. What you are seeing is proteins, oil and other nutrients forming on your water surface. You should point powerhead at the surface to break up the film, but the only true way of removing it is surface skimming using a skimmer with the surface skimming attachment or overflow.

Thanks for the help. Any advice on good skimmers? My tank is 90 gallons. I will point the flow tank at the top of the tank to bust up the protein and oils.

I can't think of the name off the top of my head, but check the DIY / Equipment forum for what other poeple use and are happy with. I have a Prizm Deluxe 100 and so far (2 days) it's been ok. A little noisy, but it's supposed to quiet down after it breaks in.

Try the Aqua Remora skimmers. I've heard great things our those. Does your tank have a overflow?
