Can anyone give me a list of equipment I would need to start a reef tank. Things like lights, sumps, filters...etc. My tank is a 55 gal with three fish and a few corals people have given me. Thanks for any help.

What kind of substate do you have in there now? You might have to start from scratch due to you need to swap out your substrate if you have crushed coral and add live rock.

I used 4 bags of live sand and I have about 40 lbs of rock almost ready to go plus whats in there already. I have 2 Penguin 350 bio wheel filters. A protein skimmer. Several powerheads. And 160 watt lights.

You can remove one of those PENGUINS and add a HOB REFUGIUM, and you might want to upgradde your lighting pending on what kind of corals you would like to keep.

How much light do I need in a 55 gal just keeping hardy corals. And do I need a sump?

You do not need a sump if you have a refugium in a matter of fact most people are converting their sumps to fuge's. Go for the hallides if you can afford them, if not some good VHO PC's at least the 48" 216w or more.

Okay, thanks for the advice. Fingers crossed. This is my first go at a reef. I've had this tank going for 18 months.
