I hope no one minds if I ask for help on a freshwater project on this site. I recently acquired a 240gal which I'm planning to set up for African Cichlids. I also have an 85gal which I want to use to build a wet/dry-refugium. The first section of the sump/refugium will have two 6gallon bio towers. Then a plate of glass that the water will go under, then a plate the water will go over into the refugium then a plate the water will go over and a plate it will go under into the section where the return pumps will be.
Questions are how high off the bottom of the tank should the glass plates that the water is going under be? The dimensions of the wet/dry tank are L72”xW15”xH18”. How big should the section where the pumps will be sitting be? Also, while the pump that the tank came with is just a couple of months old, I don't want to use it as it's HUGE (HY Drive 6000) and I think was causing his tank to run warm as he was using a large chiller and I don't want to use it. What pumps should I use? What size should they be? The main tank has an overflow in each of the back corners.
Obviously I want to turn the tank over as much as I can without heating up the water as the pumps will be submerged. What pumps and what size should I use. Someone suggested two Sicce 1600's. What sez the experts on this board. Any help and advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
