Did you take the pump apart to really see if it was shot totally?
Yup, the impeller was huge compared to the one in my canister filter. The pump was in cased in a plastic housing and then I unscrewed the top of the pump, took out the impeller and it looked bad. It was very hot (someone did not listen to me and plugged it back in) and smelled NASTY.

So the new pump is fried now. Not even in the system for a full 2 months. I did the smart thing and ordered 2 new pumps. I am going to replace the old pump, which is a little giant model. Hopefully, the new pumps will be able to work together better. The little giant pump pushes water out at a higher GPH rate than the hydrive. This is causing the hydrive to work harder to push water through the plumbing. Now, I have to figure out how to plumb the new pump in that is replacing the little giant. They don't hook up the same.

Yup, the pumps feed about 30 tanks. I am replacing the old little giant pump (age unknown) with a new hydrive 4000. I also have to replace the hydrive 4000 that I got in October, since it burnt out. I may try to take it apart to see what it looks like inside. The little giants that are on the system are no longer manufactured, which is why we have to go with the hydrives. I will have to re-do some of the plumbing to connect the new hydrive that is replacing the little giant pump. I think I'm becoming more handy with this technical stuff.

Probably. The fish system I am working on is 15 years old. The newer systems use external pumps similar to a hot tub or pool pump. I really should get some pics of how the system I am working on is pieced together. I have to admit that I never fully understood how the system worked until I got into SW.
