Help With Setting Up Top Off System

Getting tired of carrying water and have vacation planned in few weeks. I want to set up a top off system but need some advice please. I have a RO/DI unit set up already for evaporation water but have to carry water from it to tank. RO unit is on back porch because fresh and waste water close to there. My tank is in living area of home and I have no place to put RO unit near tank. How far can I run the water line from the RO unit? It is about 35 ft from the unit to tank. If that is not too far I can run line under home to tank then set up top off in the sump under the tank. Can I leave water to RO unit on all the time with top off system and when it gets low the water opens and discharges fresh water? Is this possible? Is this too long of a run for the water from the unit to keep enough pressure? Any ideas would be great. Thanks Guys.

I used my plastic 32g garbage can, that I use for water changes - filled it with RO water and ran my hose from it. It will hold a weeks worth of water. I loosly put the lid on and covered it with a table cloth to slow evaporation.
I put one sensor in the tank and the other in the water filled garbage can, make sure the hose in the tank is out of the water to prevent back siphoning. I used a fan shaped piece of plastic I had from a bug sprayer I never used, to create a splash guard. I attached it with zip ties. Works great!
I took some pictures, hope it helps.

that looks simple enough. it probably took you no time at all to set that up.
Yes about an hour, I had to figure a way to stop it from splashing and make sure it was good and tight so it woudn't move.
I don't have an RO unit my well water is just too bad. I was using 4, 5g and 2, 3g jugs and hauling them home for top offs. I splashed one day and burst one of my brand new MH bulbs

So I put my water all at once into the plastic can and cover it up to look at least a little presentable, use the top off and life just got easier.
I figured it would work great for somebody that needed to top off while on vacation for a week. It works great. Hope it helped you.
