help with skimmer!!!! Kent Marine EX!!!

Hi, I just purchased Kent Marine 24" EX skimmer with Mag-12 pump which this pump is recommended from kent marine. The problem is this skimmer is really loud ..... I mean from air intake it just making loud noise kinda like "loud sipping noise" if you know what i mean..... I don't think skimmer supposed to be this loud. Does anyone had a problem like this with this skimmer????

I hate to break it to ya but those skimmers stink! I'm speaking from personal knowledge. It will get a little more quiet after its break in period and adjustments. But for the most part, they're pretty loud. That's why they seem like such a deal money wi$e. Kent makes great additives but their skimmers stink! (IMO)

Andretti, why do you say those skimmers stink??? What did you have pump wise running it and what were your major dislikes with it???? I have a friend who has several big setups and frag tanks and he's very please with the ones he's running

These are kind of like the Euro Reef's, correct? .. I know the needle wheel isn't a must for these kind of skimmers but it sure would improve the skimming..Is this an 8" dia skimmer or 6"? The Mag 12 sounds kind of big, doesn't it?
You might be able to get a Gen X pump with a needle wheel impeller from Geo. That might really improve the way this skimmer works.

I'm pretty sure from looking at them that they are 6". My buddy who has a couple frag tanks run his on a Mag, but not sure what size, and his skim like mad....I'll have to ask him more about it tomorrow

well, you figure a Euro Reef CS8-2 uses a Sedra 5000, with the needle wheel that pump probably does...ooohhhh, say 300 gph...They use the same pump on the CS6-2+ models as well...The Mag 12 just sounds like too much too me for this skimmer. I'd bet the Gen X pump with the needle wheel would turn it into a much better skimmer.

now i am running mag-18 on my skimmer. It was mag-12 but it was not pushing at all. reason for this is because i am running long hose from skimmer so i need more power to push. Now its running great tho.
