don't paint the pvc. Use the white pvc from home depot as it will get covered with coralline. Hint, use threaded ends with elbows and teflon tape so you can adjust them. Reduce the end to increase the velocity and use multiple heads to reduce dead area's in the tank. Don't go deep without an anti-siphon hole near top or you can overflow the sump.
If you think doubling your efforts can compensate for lack of skill, there is no end to what you can't do.

Are you saying that you 'painted' your pvc with the purple pvc primer? Has it lasted or worn off?
