I watched this wrasse at the LFS for a few weeks, and he has a great personality so I finally bought him... but no one at the LFS knew what kind he was. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what kind of wrasse that is but i do have a quick question ... do you think I can put a juvenile Blue Hippo Tang in My 65 Gallon tank? Experience is not a problem since I've managed a 90 gallon tank with many fish including a purple, yellow, and Achilles Tangs. -Jamie

I belive that is a 5 Line wrasse or maybe a lunare i'm not very good at pinpointing exact fish. Also JAM1E I don't think you should do it JMO and if you have individual questions you should open your own thread that way you will get responses

A few things about the wrasse they will eat pretty much anything that is on your sandbed like crabs/shrimp etc. just be prepared they also like meaty foods with some veggies mine prefers mysis/krill/brine and on occassion emerald entree

Looks like a 4 line too me. Lunare's have vertical stripes on the body, although the heads look kinda alike! JAMIE~ IMO i think a blue hippo will be ok, juvi's are about a ince long, he will be fine. Definatly not a long term choice though! Good Luck!

thanks everyone ... sorry to but in on your thread ... I started a new one with a different question though ... but I've decided to put in an inch long blue hippo, then when he gets big enough, (4-5 inches) I'm going to trade him back in .. thanks for the help

Jam1e - No problem. I don't think people get upset, it just generally isn't as affective to ask an unrelated question inside a thread when it gets much more attention in its own thread.

I have looked through every site, and with all the color and pattern variations - especially between juvis/adults...males/females - I may never know what it is. It doesn't help that today its colors are much more red and dark blue... heehee. Please, God, just don't let it grow up to be brown. LOL! Heh.
I want a Harlequin tusk badly... hope they'll get along... :hilarious
Thanks for all the responses, you guys! I appreciate any help!

Thanks guys. I'm going to have to go with Dogstar and the others that suggested the Thalassoma quinquevittatum / Five-stripe / Red Ribbon... Looks like he's going to be the smallest in the tank. Good thing he speeds around like a crackhead most of the time... Heh.
Is $20 an okay price, or did I get reamed?

Yep, I, too, think it is Thalassoma quinquevittatum.
$20 is an excellent price for that guy. I have seen them priced at as much as $50.
Good luck with him.
