i have a 55g. 1 lion 3 damsel. but they told me to get cc but i read that it is bad and lets out bad stuff

should i change it or is it ok for what i have

If you're willing to maintain it (syphon it out regularly), there's nothing wrong with it.

I'd suggest once every two weeks when you do your regular water changes. You can suck up a lot of gunk and get it out of your tank.

the lps said to get get lava rock as base rock what about that

Both cc and lava rock bad bad stuff. The cc will turn darker over time and look no where near as good and I believe the lava rock can leach bad stuff into your tank.
