Checked my tank this AM and my coral beauty was upside down at the top of the tank and breathing very hard. the only change was last night I took out an old rio particle filter and put in two powerheads in anticipation of my anemone circulation needs. WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIM?
PS he ate great last night and looked perfect. However, for the first time, I saw him allow my cleaner shrimp to clean him and he was all of the way inside of his gills. Actually pretty cool. Please Help.

Most like ammonia spike. Check ammonia, if high, put it in fresh saltwater, the same temp quickly. It appears that it is suffocating.

one more thing. I have three clowns and they are all fine. Just the angel( coral beauty) suffering.

Kelly's right, it may be an ammonia spike. Clowns are more hardy than angelfish thats probably why hes the only one being affected.

Coral Beauty is dead. Everything is fine in the tank. Ammonia, trites, trates...everything. I am real confused. Would a spike abate that quickly where it would not show up on my tests but would kill my fish.

I seriously doubt your ammonia could have broken down that quickly. Its more than likely the fish may have been sick when you purchased him. How long had he been at the store before you bought him? Did you qurantine him before introducing him into your tank?

It could have been ick in his gills. Especially if the CB was breathing really hard and the cleaner shrimp was all in his gills. Ick can infest the gills and suffocate the fish with no visible appearance on the outside of the fish. Sorry to hear it didn't make it. CB's are cool fish.

I purchased the CB with the tank that I bought. To my knowledge the previous owner had him for quite a while. I just hate that I can't learn from this because I still haven't figured out the cause of his death.
