Hello, well first post here and i have a problem i can't seem to fix. at this point i want more advice then anything.
I have had a tank set up and running for over a year or so, one day i went to clean it and used a Siphon on the gravel. Well i sorta rushed it . . . and then moved some of the rock around for new fish i was going to add soon. I had two Ocellaris Clownfish one Maroon Clownfish a Blue Tang a Pygmy (Cherub) Angelfish and Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp and some small snails and a small cleaner clam.
now all thats left is the all but one clown the the tang and the shrimp. . . atm all the fish are stressed almost to death and not eating . . . . the problem seems to be ammonia as it is 5.0mg/l i have tried to fix it all the ways i could find on the net or known from having a saltwater tank for the past 3-4 years. I have done water changes 20% everyday for the past 3 days the ammonia has not changed and I even cleaned out the skimmer/ other filter.

atm tank sits at
HP8.2
Salt 1.022-1.023
no-2 =0.3 or lower
again nh4= 5.0mg/l
55Gal tank no live rock or anything else besides inverts/fish
I Am thinking to let the tank/system work its self out at this point and wanted to making sure before i did it would be my best bet. its been this way for almost 2 weeks and its been getting slightly better but stopped getting better at this point. ty for any info anyone can give me @,@;

So you are running a fish only system with a gravel base? Do you have any methods of filtration? If so what?

siphon =o the gravel, most of the time slowly . . . you know the vacuum siphons ?_? i do it every time i do a water change. I know its not the best or cleanness way to keep a tank but . . the bottom filters seem to weak to hold the rock i have.

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals AmmoLock available at the pet chain stores. Locks ammonia up so that it is not toxic, does not remove it, water changes will do that. Worst is already done by stirring the substrate, get the ammonia locked up right away then continue with 20-30% water changes every two days or so. You can also set up a QT to put the fish into until you stablize the DT.

reread your post, all my filtration for water/ect is.
skimmer http://www.***********.com/ps_Aquari...ti-skimmer.htm
close to this one its a filter/skimmer
A eclipse Filter its about . . . 5-10 years old filter o_O im not sure but it has two bio-wheels and two fiber/carbine filters. if that helps.
Not familiar with this particular filter, but I assume that you are/have changed the carbon filters on this? Definitely keep up the water changes until your ammonia levels drop back to zero. Agree with Spanko, I would consider a QT tank to move livestock into until you can get the ammonia back under control.
