Earlier today my PH shorted out, like literally almost started on fire (sparks, smoke, etc..) I wasnt home but my son saw what was going on and unplugged the PH. There are little bits of plastic and debris floating around my tank, i got out what I could. Ever since it happend non of my corals have opened and my frog spawn looks pale and shriveled. I need some advice ASAP. The PH was a rio 800 and the top of my water looks like it might have an oily residue on it. Do PH have any types of lubricants or chemicals in them? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

poly filter, carbon and some small water changes....Do a search here (should be tons of stuff on Rio's) Rio's are about as bad as it gets.
Good things your son was home...I've seen and hear of a lot worse

Day 3 of my saga. I have changed the filter media in my filter, and also done 2 20% water changes. My sea urchin stopped shedding needles and most of my corals are slowly reopening. I have noticed that a lot of my coraline algae is turning white. Does anyone know what that could be from?

Everything has reopened, not 100%, but opened none the less. Except my frog spawn, It is still kind of shriveled. My urchin is moving around and not shedding any needles anymore, but some of my coraline algae is white. Does anyone know what could be turning my coraline white?

Can't say why the coralline is turning white unless it was exposed to the air for a while, that will do it. On another note if you don't have a GFIC plug serving the tank it is most advisable to do so.
