Please help me!! It turns out that i had an exposed wire and my cat had splashed the water and it electrocuted my whole tank.Killing my clown fish, damsel, blenny and wrasse!! I'm on the verge of hanging myself.Anyway i am assuming that all my corals are gonna die too?? and also my sun anenome considering it retracted itself and detached itself from his rock. What do i do now?? Start totally over??I cant believe i let it happen please help
I just lost almost all my coral but no fish, when my heater broke and electrocuted my tank. I have GFCI outlets on everything. I am sure it saved the fish and the few corals I have left.
So for anyone reading this, …get those outlets changed to GFCI ASAP. Water and electricity do not mix.
I lost most of my inverts so there is no real CUC. I imagine you have the same situation.
Clear the dead out as best you can. Now comes the watch for ammonia, all the tiny dead things way up in the rock and sand will cause an ammonia spike, so prepare for water changes. Corals that are just closed up I left alone in hopes they will come out of it. My green Star polyps are all open now, the Zoa are closed up tight, but don’t look dead. My mushrooms are okay as well.
I removed only the corals that I was sure were dead, the skeleton showing and the flesh hanging off was a good clue.
Wait for the water tests to read 0 on ammonia before trying to add anything…even adding a CUC at this point will just add to the problem of ammonia spikes. I bought one of those ammonia alert discs so I can watch 24/7, if it gets to the alert color I start a water change. I test for ammonia every morning with my test kit for an exact reading.
I got some Purigen and carbon..and run that to keep the tank clear of ammonia and toxins..corals give off chemical war darts when stressed and believe me they are stressed. I looked for Amquel but my LFS didn’t carry it.
Don’t bother the anemone, it may reattach and be fine. It will turn to snot if it dies.
