My tank has this rust color on the walls and my DSB that will not go away. The top of the sand bed has almost a hair to it. I can clean the sides of the tank and the rust color is back the next morning. What is this and how can I get rid of it.

sounds like hair algae. can you post your levels and also what color is the algae? Can you "wave" it off with your hand as in waving your hand in the water and it kinda spreads apart like dust?

Sound like Diatoms to me. Are you using de-ionized water?

I'll run some levels tonight. It is a rust color almost. I can fan it off with my hands though and looks like dust in the water when that happens.

my vote is diatoms then. they will go away just be patient.
