Here is my Figi tomato clown and BTA. Finally was put in display tank, one week early. You can see that he is very dark, note the dark fins.

hey, check out the photo on swf.com of the cinnamon clownfish. I believe this is what you have. Looks identical to tomato but darker on sides and fins. I actually have one of each. check it out.

Be careful if it does turn out that you have an octopus -- some of the small ones have a very poisonous bite -- can be fatal. Most octopi don't live too long (not much over a year if I recall corectly). So, if he was a hitchiker in LR, he might not be around too much longer anyway -- might be better to just keep your fingers crossed than to try to catch him and risk a bite. If you just caught a brief glimpse of it, it could be a brittle star or serpent star. Both of those are good guys and, unlike the starfish most people think of, can move very fast.
It seems like it is not unusual for some clowns to get very dark with age. I have had tomatoes and maroons do it.

Octos mostly eat clams and oysters, unlikely youd have enough in you tank to sustain him.
As for the clown, hes supposed to look like that. You wont win any trophys for one that doesn't. Originally (showing my age again) both Frenatus and Melanopus were called tomatoes when bright red in color, melanopus when this color

were called cinnamon. If I remember correctly the only thing that technically distinguishes the two are the number or dorsal spines. So... if cinnamon brown like the picture, definately melanopus, if red like yours, could be either.

I will have some homework to do. Thanks for the info. I am questioning the cinnamon only because mine has all black fins on the dorsals(?) bottom fins. I have to dig way back to science class for this one! Lol I suppose that they do interbreed. I sure hope that I wasn't once again taken by a LFS. Aaagh! I hate that.

my tomato turned dark on the sides too. I think it has to do with her mood. some days she is orange and most of the time she is really dark orange. I also have a cinnimon clown you can definately tell the differance between them.
