Hermit Crab Molting

I have a few blue leg hermit crabs and some brown legged hermit crabs. When these crabs molt do they lose some of their legs/claws with their shell? I've found two sets of "legs" with a portion of the shell. Or are they dying off? Thanks for your help.

generally the whole skeleton comes off at once. you may have something beathing on the hermits.

What is "beathing". Every other day or so there's a new skeleton and claws popping up. It doesn't appear the crabs are dying. I only have 8 so they are pretty easy to keep track of. Thanks!
