Hermit Crab Shells

Not sure how to phrase this, but I wanted to know if I need to put extra shells in the tank for my hermit crabs? Is it true that they will out grow theirs?
Any advice would be great, thanks.

from what I've been told .. yes.. and if there is not one for them they will take one.. like from a big snail..

Hey!
Yup! Fur sure, and YES! They will kill each other and your snails to get one. You can go to a hobby store such as Michaels or Hobby Lobby, what ever is in your town. They sell sacks of shells for a couple bucks. Pick out a nice selection of sizes and boil them for 10 minutes or so to make sure there is nothing inside. Rinse them in some prepared saltwater and drop them around your tank.
I got a clean-up crew from this site and the day after I added them to the tank some of the hermits were walkin around with new homes.
Take care,
Dan'l :D

Thanks for the quick replies... I will surely go out and get some extra shells today.
Also thanks for the welcome.. I have been reading through many of the posts for weeks and have really learned a great deal.

welcome to the board! please do get some shells, this fact is neglected by so many lfs and places that sell clean up crews. They make no mention of it, and have no shells to order, we'd be truely astounded at the amount of hermits lost to fighting for shells! have fun! ;)
