My son wants hermit crabs-but I don't know which would be good for him. I have plenty of saltwater fish but never hermit crabs.:help:

Hermits are pretty hardy. Their main culprit for death, is each other! I have hawaiian zebra hermits and blue legs. The zebras' are pretty small, and so are my blue legs. Others have said that blue legs can get aggressive as they get larger, but I have had no problems with either so far. Look under inverts on this web site and they will list several for you.

There a many others, but the most common (least aggressive) are the scarlets (not to be confused with red legged hermits). They dont fight each other or any other kind of crabs just for the sake of "trying on their shell". Just make sure there are extra shells laying around for them to grow into, acclimate properly, and have no invert loving fish. They should do fine.

Ok. now I have an idea what to get, but where are some places to buy from online or is that a bad idea. There is only 1 or 2 pet places around here and the nearest big city is about 150 miles away? Any ideas? I've tried this vendor (saltwater fish) but I would have to purchase 79.00 worth of inverts? way too many! I don't want 100's of them.

No. Read up on them a little. You could always get lucky and get one that is non-aggressive, but chances are they will make a nice meal out of any inverts they can get their mouth on.

There are lots of hermits.
Blue leg hermits
scarlet hermits
red leg hermits
mexican hermits
zebra hermits
Red Tip Hermit Crab
Electric Blue Hermit Crab
Electric Orange Hermit Crab
Strawberry Hermit Crab
Halloween Hermit Crab (I will have some of these if they ever go any cheaper there like $15 a piece!)
Staghorn Hermit Crab (Expensive also around $25 a piece)
Hermit Crab with Anemone (Get way to big for most tanks)
Common Hermit Crab ( they get pretty large also)
I think that about covers the most common hermits im sure there are some out there that are alittle more rare that I havent seen.
