Hermit on my Green Star Polyp

I just bought a frag of Green Star Polys the other day and I woke up this morning and found one of my hemits.. either the blue legged or blue knuckle, perched atop the colony. They were obviously closed up and it was hard to tell if he was munching down on them so I knocked him off. 30 mintes later I come back and he was back on there. Same place so I knocked him off again. Is he eating them? I didn't think they ate polyps. I feed enough and make sure they eat. Its always the same crab too.... should I just get rid of him?

hmmm...u live in scotia?? what lfs do you go to for your fish?? If the polyps are dead, your hermits will prolly eat them. I've had hermits on almost all my corals and nothing has been eaten. Hermits are annoying like that. Try picking him up and actually moving him across the tank and see what happens

Most likely he isnt eating it, just eating algae off the new rock. Its annoying but most likely wont hurt anything and after a day or two , they get all the new goodies off of it and leave it alone.

Thanks guys yea I haven't seen any food particles flying up in the water so I was guessing he wasn't eating them... just marching over them. He hasn't been backed since I knocked him off twice......
Sean.... I goto Union Aquarium and have been to Eddis a coupel of times but they are expensive. Something fishy doesn't have too good of a selection and Davy Jones locker in Albany is overpriced IMO.

All the places seem to be hit or miss around here just because of the location you know. Normally from what I'v eseen... if 1 place gets good stuff in all of them normally have good stuff. When one is bad the other aren't close behind.... IMO

Actually went sunday b/c i've heard of it but havent been there. When we found the saltwater, the stock was very limited and most the corals they have arent for sale!! also, there was no one down there to wait on us if we did decide to get anything. when we came upstairs, a guy asked us if we needed help and thats it. their tank set ups are very over priced, imo. imo, sf is a personable store and thats what kept us coming back before i started workin there.

oh yea i agree SF is very personable and they seem to be knowledgable too. The problem with union aquarium is that there are only 2 people that work there that know anything about saltwater. Paul the owner and I think the other guy is dave, younger guy with a goatee. If they are there they are the ones to talk to but everyone else has blank stares when it comes to Saltwater. You are probably rigth on the tank setups though I don't usually price those things out because I'm not in the market for any of that stuff.

I believe that... A friend wanted to get me a fish as a gift. I said I would like a lawnmower blenny and they came home with a "Red Scarlet Blenny" i.e Dragonet. Eddies told them that it was just a red colored lawnmower. Nevertheless it dies 3 days later after spot feeding mysis.
