Hermits dead.

I found a wierd looking thing today that looks like a hand with some meat attached, had no clue what it was. Came home tonight and found another and realized it was a blue leg hermit. Why would my hermits be diing. I did a test today and everything checked out fine, fish are fine and some of the other blue legs are fine along with my turbo snails.

Could they be molting? Are they definitely dead?

I didn't know blue leg hermits molt. I bought some shells and i see alot of them switching shells all the time. It's not really a whole crab i am seeing just like the claws that look liek a hand and a little white meat attached to it.

sounds like they have died. it could be from another hermit killing them for their shells also.

I have alot of empty shells but i guess that doesn't mean anything. I did see one that looked like he was changing shells that was right by the dead one, maybe that's it.

could be! i always have had good luck with the scarlet hermit crabs. they never fight or go after my snails. they are pretty peaceful. ive heard the blue legs and red legs are aggressive torwards each other and snails. ive never had them thats just what ive heard here on the board!!

I always have tons of shells for my hermits, one hermit is in the bright white shell he loves to pick on others, I have seen my crabs kill others for their shells, I bet that is why.
