hermits on dry land?

just wondering if the hermits you buy for SW tanks are the same as the pet dry land hermits?
this may sound dumb but i've always been curious

They are definitely not. The land hermits sold as beach souvenirs etc are Coenobita clypeatus. They are a land hermit but do still rely on getting to water, but they should not be submerged for long periods. And of course we have many species of marine hermits in the trade.

i didnt think they were but it's good to know for sure (not that i was going to try putting them in my tank anyway)
