Will hermits eat snails...? I got mostly scarlets, blue legs and Hawaiian....im seeing alot of empty shells laying around and was just wondering what was happening..thanks....Al

Thats how they get their homes if they can't find empty ones. Every time you go to the LFS ask them for empty shells in their tanks....

I lost all my snails and both conchs in the FOWLR with my blue tang and swallowtail angel because of some hermits looking for new homes...
I wish I would have had empty shells for them because now I have to buy more snails and conchs. :mad:

thanks...i never knew that...i guess i have to order some more snails because they are disappearing...thanks for the reply...learn something new everyday in this hobby...and spend money everyday in this hobby..lol

Make sure you have plenty of empty shells for them to move into before you buy more snails. Hermits grow and need bigger shells and will take a snail shell if no other is supplied. You can ask the LFS for some, but also go to a craft store, buy a bag of shells, boil them, and add to the tank. Make a pile of empty shells and hopefully that will work. I stay clawless here---learned my lesson.
