Hey all you experts (and experts in training!)

Alright, so this isn't a matter of life or death, so you can breath, its more of just something that I find is very important. I have a 25 gl tank, with a little less than 20 lbs of LR, (I stacked it really cool, so its doesn't even take up a fourth of the tank, and looks awesome with lots of caves!) I have a cleaner shrimp, one percula, and a scooter blenny. I was wondering if I could have a flame angel, mandarin goby (it does eat some flake) and a pygmy angel. Is this too much to gradualy add to my tank, and would these fish get along very well, I hate when my fish don't get along!!! I would love some advice from all of you wonderful fish lovers!

For amount of fish, I don't really know, that doesn't sound like to many unless you are going to keep corals. I have never seen my mandarin eat flakes, but one should be able to live off your live rock, I would get a small one. By the way, mandarins aren't gobys, they are dragonets.

I agree with Mr. Salty! The flame is a pygmy angel. Just go with the flame or a coral beauty. Try a kole tang. They clean algae & are very docile in a reef!

Thanks for the help guys! I really want the flame, so that sounds like it will work. I really like the mandarin, and I was wondering how it would do with the blenny. My blenny generally is all over the place, not many fish to keep in him in one spot, and the Mandarin does eat flake, I have been watching him in the LFS for about a week, and they have no LR, but it sounds like it and the pygmy is a little iffy. Thanks guys! I really want this batch to get along! ~~Megan

Don't get a mandarin. They are hard to keep in aquariums unless you have a ton of live rock and live sand. Try a firefish instead. They are much easier to keep. The flame angels are 50 bucks apiece, so if it dies, you'll be more mad than sad. I suggest a coral beauty. They are about 25 bucks apiece and very nice fish. Only keep one pygmy angel in a tank that size. If you want more than one in the same tank, get a 100+ gallon tank.

Thanks for the tips. When I went hunting for my new fishies, my friend had a tiny Koran angel, and I knew that they would get big, but for now it would be okay. (And I got it for free, so I decided, what the heck) but if it isn't going to be really nice and gentle with my other fish, then I am going to take it back, and get store credit, and then I would have enough saved up to get a Flame angel for less than $10. Does anyone know very much about Koran's? I really don't, and my friend sometimes knows stuff, or I know what she doesn't, but neither of us know about this one. Any ideas on what it will be like, or how to care for it is greatly appreciated!

With out a doubt. Stay away from the mandrin goby. He will die in a years time. Slowly. they are the coolest looking fish but you really need a big tank with a ton of old live rock.

I think in the size tank you have you are already at your limit. It is not good for fish to be kept in too small tanks. Think of it this way, technically you could "live in your bedroom only for years and years provided you were fed and it was kept clean etc, but would you really want that? An active fish such as a flame angel will feel the same way.

Tom
