Hey!!!breeding B. Cardinals Help!!!

HEY I HAVE A MALE BAGGII CADINAL AND I WANTED TO KNOW IF I CAN GET ANOTHERONE IF THEY WILL BREED. IF ANYONE HAS AND ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION OR ANY INFO AT ALL ABOUT BREEDING THEM IT WOULD REALLY HELP

Ok well here ya go. Crdinals are a bit difficult to tell between male and female. The male cardinal has a square jaw, and the females jaw comes to V. The reason its a V is becuase he holds the eggs in his mouth. I have three pairs that breed. What you need to do is get 4 together two males to females. Put them in a tank that you will be able to grab the male when he has eggs. He will spit them out into lil babiy banggais. You will need long spine urchin but you can get around that. Get your self a round piece of plastic or something that will sink that you can poke skewer sticks in to imitate a long spine urchin. The dad will spit them out and the babies love long spine urchins cux they feel secure and also the parents feel comfortable to spawn when that is around if you have any questions let m know

do u know if i have to get the two at the same time or if i get the felmae now if they might breed, and do u know how to care for the long spine urchins?
thanks for all ur help

If you have a male it will breed with any adult female you put in there. They're not picky at all.

does antone have any pics of their juvinile cardinals?? pics of their setup or anything like that??? maybe even the juviniles with an artificila sea urchin,( im curious t see wat one of these will look like
) ?
im just wonderin so if u do it would be really cool if you could post some pics lol if u want to lol

that is REALLY COOL
is that a long spine urchin, if its not or if it is, how much was it and what are its requierments ??? lol too many questions i made one out of a styrofoam ball and shish-ca-bob sticks and some toothpicks but ur real one is much cooler
and one more question, my "homemade" urchin is right now basically brown and white do u think there is anyway i can make it a darker color and still keep it aquarium safe, cause i want it to look natural and the black tooth picks and stuf had some dye in it that i thought might polute the water???

That Urchin was a hitchhiker. Ophiura could probably ID it. I think it's E. lacunter or a close relative. Eats mostly algae but I think they are omnivores. Needs a very stable Salinity.
For a homemade Urchin try using some marine epoxy formed into the shape of half a sphere and sticking a bunch of black plastic zip ties into it.

ya these are the ones i made they are basically a styrofoam ball with toothpicks and stuff lol, i made 2 sizes i case i wat to use one for the babies, if i have any, and one for the adults, idk if they will use it but o well, if i use the zip ties wont the little metal pieces inside rust and if they don i was kina lookin for somethin that like u just paint or spray on i lie dont want to add that much more stuff to it lol but thatnks for the idea and the advise

I've never seen zip ties with metal in them.
Won't the styrofoam just float on top?

Yeah only the big zip ties contain metal in them and the metal is fully enclosed in plastic. The size that contain metal would be way way too big for what is trying to be accomplished. The smaller zip ties don't contain metal. Yeah wont the styrofoam float?

The picture on the right shows a home made urchin of wooden skewers and what looks like a ball of epoxy putty. Marine grade epoxy putty would work well for this application! It's heavy like a rock, solid, and able to be punctured by skewers while it is hardening by chemical reactions.
Perfect.
Banggai cardinals aren't that difficult to breed. Read a great book, get the advice from people who have done it before, like Bang Guy. And have fun with it!

i just bought 100 black zip ties off the internet for 2 bucks so ill show u guys the results when i get them and finish making the urchins
and i showed u all the lare on i made for the adult cardinal but he wont go in it
i dont know if it knows its fake or not but i only see him near i when i turn on the light in the mornig?

i jsut got the new issue of Tropical Fish Hobbyist and it had a who article about breeding banggais so i read it and got some usiful info

hello google search, out of all the marine fish that are routinely bred in captivity Banggai cardinals have got to be the most common.
A quick google search would have pulled up ten or more excellent articles
As an FYI keith clarke (you can google his name + banggai) did the first fake urchin for banggai back in 97, clever idea. expoy works much better than stryofoam, I gotta think sytofoam is going to float.
The article in TFH is pretty good as well.
