thanks jakob. very encouraging. i'm glad to see there's others with a heart for starving fish in fish stores. i think anyone who's determined enough to keep them can. most of the guidelines people state are for those who aren't going to be always tinkering with their tanks. i spend all day (mostly=) thinking of how to make a better tank, or make mine better. if i could just find a store that sells them already, or could get the pod transport idea working, i would be fine.
also, another refugium question for you all. (since i seem to have everyone's attention for a change =) how does the critters from the refugium make it to the main tank? i mean, if you have a pump, wouldn't they get smashed by the pumps? or are they pretty pump safe, being so small? i'm trying to envision the whole setup and this question keeps popping up to me. i know there are people with algae scrubber setups in where the algae acts as the refugium, and the water is usually just a drop off from the algal vat (if mounted above the tank), but what about if you have to pump the water back up? what i want to do eventually is have a sump and/or refugium underneath the main tank. i want an overflow siphon and some sort of pump for the return. nothing else mechanical except for a skimmer that will run from the return vat of the sump before the refugium. i also don't want to use any filter media that could trap organisms, unless i have to use a large pored filter type. i plan on deep sand bed, live rock, and macroalgae. that's it for filtration. anybody got pointers that could help me out with this. i'm very interested in any help. some people have emailed me with their setups and i appreciate hearing what others have. thanks again, b
