We have one but it surges alot and I was afraid it would fry something. I am relying on the battery operated air pumps. Do you have problems with the surges? Everyone made fun of my because I was so upset over my tanks! My lions were the last to go and I swear I would have given them mouth to mouth to save them, lol.

Up here in Nebraska there was a really bad ice storm this year (didn't hit us though, whew!) and people didn't have power for like a month because all the power poles fell.

We are on a good "grid" I guess.

After the first storm, I realized just how important keeping your alcohol cold was, lol. I didn't make the same mistake again, you must have priorities. I live next to a good grid, they were always up within a day or two, no such luck for me.
I was afraid to use the generator because the fear of frying my system, with my luck, 10 minutes before power came back on. Has anyone had that problem?

Never had a problem of worrying about frying my system, Make sure your GENNIE can handle your wattage load,, and use my advice on having everything in ONE power stip.

You go to lowes or such, & buy a seperate panal box with like 6 circutes, Have a electrician hook it up. You run so X amount of lines from your main box to the new box. When your power goes out you switch off the main box & turn on the generator box. If you don't turn off the main box & they come to work on the line you'll fry them. Not sure if AC is to much or not. I run all the aquarium , refig, stove, some lights, well , & heat. Even can watch TV.My power goes out about 4 times a year.

I will look into that for sure. Is it just a regular panel box just smaller than the one on the house?

The box is made for use with a generator, it seperates the power source. It has a miin switch & 6-8 braker switches. You find out what brakers you want if power goes out & wire thoes to the new braker box. When power goes out hook up the generator, turn off the main braker to the house, Start the generator, then after it runs for a couple mins plug it in to the new braker box controling the brakers you want during the outage, turn on the brakers & your good to go. When you buy your connecting cable for the generator buy one long enough to get the generator near a wall or door to vent it or get it outside.
