Once I take the CC out and put the LS in will I have to cycle the tank before I can put the fishes back in or Should I just let them go at it.... If i need to cycle the tank where can I put the fish while the tank is cycling.... Also pondering getting a little 10-20 gallon to keep underneath the show tank in the stand.. (I will have ample room.) as a quarantine tank. Ive been reading and it sounds like it would be a good idea to have one if i am planning on adding new fish..
Will i be able to add the LR later on after the tank is set up... Id rather not drop teh $200 bucks or so to get enough at this moment in time...
I am going to be getting the LS and a new powerhead that should be enough to keep my wallet cranky for a little while.

Hey guys, went looking for the tropical play sand that latino was talking about and found a description online ( http://www.yardright.com/sand.htm ) it is called yard right tropical play sand from the carribean. But on the page it says it is not suitable for aquarium systems.. Is that bogus or did i find the wrong stuff or what. Planning on going to the hardware store and finding something similar tomorow assuming I get a thumbs up on this stuff.... Was planning on going to the LFS to get some live sand cause I was hoping to get the tank picked up on thursday.. My friend says he has moved it before and is 100% confident in moving it.
Another night up till 2am reading....
Wonder how long I can keep this up before i start passing out at work

P.S. Never mentioned.. This will be a Cambridge, Mass. Aquarium : p

Damn.... they changed the bag again... Yeah I think that's the stuff. lets wait for someone to confirm... you said this tank has some kind of power filter. Tell your friend not to change and of the filter media. this will be your life support for the tank since you changing out the sand. when you move the tank. take all of the media and put it into a zip lock bag full of tank water. do not let any part of it dry up or you make have a head ace! other than that .... you should be good. good luck

dstruked....the "not for aquarium" disclaimer on those bags is false. It is a contractual obligation that they are required to put there so that the companies that make gravel and substrate for aquariums won't be put out of business by thrifty, intelligent tank owners like us on this site.
In short...it's just another plot by "THE MAN" to steal our money, lol

LOL thanks Fishy. Dont let the man get you donw bothah : p
I stopped by Lowes Today and they did not have the yardright or southco sand that people talk about. the only thing they had was Quickcrete (as in the concrete manufacturer) premium play sand. It was not white, it looked like the stuff you find at a playground...
Doh...
Off to a Homedepot, Walmart, garden stor, ect to find this crud.

FYI, they don't sell it in some parts of the country. Maybe you are one of the lucky ones that can get it. :D Welcome to your new addiction!

Yea went out to a home depot today and they had just sold out of it a couple hours ago. Doh.
Tomorow I am planning on going to walmart to get some water for the Tank ( I have read on other posts that they have a reverse osmosis setup that they do water for $.25 / gallon if you have your own Containers. I am only going to get 25 / 30 though cause my car probably will not fit 11 5 gallon buckets...
Found another fish store up the street from me today. He has some LS for sale that I will probably wind up buying to seed my play sand. He also had a blennie that would swim into his hand if he put it in the tank I thought that was Cool / Strange... Didnt know they did that.
Also anyone have an opinion on whether to use a powerhead for this 55 gallon, or a "bubble stick" little bubbles that come out of a triangular stick you put against your back wall. My freind says that he used that for his 80 gallon and it worked great. Guy at the fish store says they work good but cause nasty salt mess on your tank from teh bubbles... Any opionions on which I should Purchase.
G night Guys

you should wait 24 hr before using the new saltwater. the bucket should have a power head to cirulate/oxigenate the water. anytime after 24hr is golden
