DV - hate to speak for him - but I will!
It is to vary the flow rate or to shut off the overflow incase of the return pum failing. If I have missed anything I am sure he will chime in later (he is out of the office now) ....

ACtually I am paranoid, so I have ball valves everywhere, under above below sideways. I initialy had the ball valve on there to be used with the float thing that AGA had. It helped quiet down the slurping a little but not enough. When I decided for the Durso I just kept it, but I run it wide open, it's there in case I need it though:D Hey did you guys notice the little fuge that is my overflow box, I should get some up close pictures of the worms in that baby,

I will gladly take your money Rane, but I have to ask why you don't want to do it yourself? Also I am going to help a buddy build a durso for his overflow I'll take a pic, and you tell me if you like it.

Broncofish,
The reason i dont make it myself is because when it comes to doing things like that I am a complete idiot, I am not handy at all, I had to ask my wifes uncle thats a plumber to come and installe my Ro unite, again because I am an idiot when it comes to things like that, even tho it looks easy as oh hell, I have been trying to hard pipe my entire system forever now and cant do it...got pisst off and threw all the pipes in the garbage, so if you could let me know when, and if you can send me that pic it would be great, like I said I will pay you for shipping and supplies as well as time, just dont ---- me I need the money to start my reef up :) and we will get things going :)
Thanks again
and hope to here back from you...if you want to shoot me an e-mail do so at Ramon918@Optonline.net or post here

Bronco I believe the overflows are amiracle if that’s what your asking I guess its just the same one that comes with the amiracle wet/dry system, I don’t use the wet/dry I just used the overflows cause I got that custom made, but they are 1inch holes sorry couldn’t be more specific but that’s what I know

Thats enough to work with, if you could get one more measurement, and that is the width, and lehngth of the part of your overflow where the durso will be going, also where are there 2 oveflows, or just 1

Bronco this is the best I can do for drawing hope it helps...
The reason I said I needed two durso's is because I have two hang on overflows one in each corner of the tank

Hey kip did you ever try to put a regular durso in a HOT. I'm going to try it with GrumpyOldMans, and if it works well, also Ranes.

I second that, It will make a HUGE difference. I have to be right next to make tank to hear it.
My tank is in my living room, the day after I put in my durso I walked in and didn’t hear it and almost panicked, thought my pump had gone out, then I realized that I fixed the noise problem.

heya folks, what in the H - E - double hockey sticks is a DURSO??? sounds like it's something to quiet water noise in overflow boxes??? i have a 180 true, FOWLR. it's pre-drilled and has overflow boxes in each corner. what do you do for a prefilter in that setup???
