I have a cortez in my 180. I am having a temperature control problem in it. I have to wait 2 weeks to get a new heater and chiller. Will a my ray be ok in a 46 bow for 2 weeks? My tank got to 82 last night, and dropped to 76 this morning. I keep my tank at 75-77. I want to move her to a 46. What do you think?

I'm confused. Does the 46 have a chiller/heater that keeps the temp between 75-77? If it's a small cortez, go ahead and move it for now. Good luck :)

No my 180 has a heater/chiller it is broke, but under a warrenty. The thing was a pile to begin with. They said it would take 10-14 business days to get a new one. I was on the phone and said... And what should I do with the fish that are in there? The cortez is really small. My 46 has a heater/chiller that works. I don't want my little girl in the tank tonight if it goes over 80, which I know it will.
She is real small. Thanks mike!!!!

Put them in the smaller tank for now. Temp changes like that will kill the ray sooner or later. Probably sooner. It will be fine in there. my ray Q tank is much smaller than that and does fine.

Clip fans pointed at the water surface in the main tank and in the sump will help as much as 3 degrees sometimes without the extra costs of the chiller and the bigger cost of running the chiller. Turning on the airconditioning in the house and avoiding direct sunlight on the tank will help too. If you are running glass covers, take them off. If you are running a canopy take it off too. You'd be surprised how much difference it can make increasing air movement at the water surface.

Thanks tony, and other. I will try that. I do have a glass cover on my 46, and a canopy over my 180. I will have to do some rearranging tomorrow.
I know that they need water under 80. That is why I wanted to move her. I will move her now.
Thanks,
Leopard

You should be OK keeping her in a 46 for a short time, especially since she's a little one now. Don't worry...just do the acclimation slowly---not that you wouldn't!

I have a pair of those rays in my 180 and I keep the temprature around 72 -74 deg. Once I lowered the temp the colors started to come back on them and now they are active all day long and eat anything you give them. I also keep the temp low to slow the growth down of my baby banded catshark. They can grow so fast if the temp gets to high. I feed my rays everyday so the little shark wants food everyday too. When he gets a little larger I will only feed him every other day. The rays I will continue feeding them everyday. Also, put it in the smaller tank for added insurance, supposed to get warm this weekend.

Mine is a freakin pig. I feed my fish twice a day. If I don't feed the ray squid 2 times a day then she eats the other fishes food. So I feed her 2 times a day. I have not had mine for very long. I will lower my temp a little more. Thanks for the help!!!!

Why is Leopard_babe's title now "Full of it"? One of the mods not like her or something?

No I am full of it... haha
-full of fish knowledge

I hit 1000 posts yesterday. I wanted to change it. I said mom what should I make my title... Her reply full of it. However she meant full of $h!t, or full of piss and vinegar.
As far as I know I have not had any problems with a mod. :D

Yea sad but true. They are turning up in every room now.. LOL
I added a 400g sump in the bacement to circulate all the water for all the tanks.. Im still in cycle stages though. Heck i even forgot to put the 75g hospital tank in the list.. LOL
I should just put various in there again *grin*

That is great razor.
Tony/ray owners: Can I leave the lid off of the tank all of the time? Or would that be bad for a ray? Also can i have any cleann up crew in y 180, with the ray? I was just thinking some snails to keep the glass clean.
Thanks
Leopard

I use big turbos in my tank with two baby cali rays and an epaullette shark. They seem to fair ok. I'm real nervous about not having a lid on my tanks. I've seen my rays get pretty excited at the top and would hate to have them jump out. Also with the epaullette, I have had one of those jump out. HTH
Oh yea, pictures please, I love to see new rays:happy:

When I come over to the tank my ray bobs up and down at the surface, and I am afraid that he will bob right out of the tank. I will get those picture. Currently I am farting around with my 180. I will get some big snails and see how they do. I guess a clean up crew is not a big deal, i just wanted a little something to help me clean the tank. Cali rays that is so cool, and 2 none the less. How big do those get?

I think about the same size as your cortez. I have a male and a female. the female is about 4 inches in diameter and the male is about 5. They are practically inseparable. The bad news is I just got home from work and that tank had flooded. the pre-filter in the wet/dry backed up and all over the floor. I love this hobby:notsure:
