Hi! 12 G Nano Cube

So I guess I'm part of the cool club with the rest of you bold nano'ers. My friend just brought me a JBJ 12G NanoCube DX and I'm in the priliminary stages of setting it up but I admit I' am a bit nervous. I used to have a 60G SW set-up and it seemed so much easier to maintain. I've already mixed the water and the salinity is at a 1.025. I've added 12lbs of live rock and 20 lbs of live sand. I'm going to go out and buy another another powerhead tomorrow and upgrade the stock return pump. I love this tank though its soo small but will definately made a nice aquascape in my office.
Any suggestions on what I should do now? I've been out of the SW arena for a while now. Thanks!

Thanks! I'm planning to get a cleaner crew once it finishes cycling. I took a test today and below are the results
Ph = 8.8
Nitrite = 1.0
nitrate= 10 ppm
Ammonia 0.25
The wait is killing I can't wait to stock it as well. I'm planning to place a shark inside it LOL jk
. But I'm planning a clownfish and a blenny and coral of course. I've attached a pic below

i have the same tank! they are just awesome arent they? right now i have a baby gold strip maroon clownfish and a yellow clown goby. the rocks i got where very expensive like 10 bucks a pound i spend like $150 on the rocks, but well worth it. all my rocks are nano rocks little round light weight rocks that are infested with coralin algae. in about 3 weeks i had a copepod and ampthipod farm.
its amazing like every corner u turn there are like 10 copepods. my fish dont eat them tho.. its weird. its like food heaven. i used to have corals but they got too big so i transfered them to my 30 gal. i had a frog spawn, torch coral, 2 leathers and xenia. the leathers did great and so did the torch coral but the frog spawn shrunk a little and it is still a little shrunken i dont know why. but im sure it will pass.
and my xenia was spreading like crazy. know i have a mated pair od peppermint shrimp that are exploding with eggs and a flame scallop that has not died on me for over 2 months now. im so amazed. but the only thing i dont like is that it is just covered in red slime because i feed too much micro vert and phytoplex to my flame scallop. thats probably the reason why i have too many copepods. there is a lot of unused micro vert that is being used up by the pods. its cool i love little tanks.

Thanks Man! I was kinda skeptical about the tank at first since it isn't an open top but now that I've heard your sucess I'm relieved. Oh and I'm definately going to buy more colorful LR down the line.

How do I get to your Blog... I'm really interested about the changing up the chambers I'm not really feeeling the Sponge Chamber.

yeah I love cardinals as well but I'm going to be stuck getting a clown since I work at a YMCA and alot of kids go through my office. I'm still debating on what blenny to get though.
I tested the water last night and it's almost done cycling. Today is it's one week b-day. I'm going to try to get a cleaner crew in there and more liverock as Mr.clownfish
mentioned.
I swear the waiting is the worse part of this hobby

Cool friend to hook you up with a nano. You are going to have a blast with it. I definitely recommend doing Nano-newbs mod to the chambers. A few people have done it including me and it has been problem free. You may eventually want to get a better return pump and a modular surface skimmer to help with keeping it clean but its not necessary in the first weeks. If you didn't use water and sand from another tank I kinda doubt that the cycle is done IMO but just keep an eye out on it. Welcome to the forums!

ok I'll wait another week until I'll add livestock it'll save me money in the long run, although I did get the sand from another well established tank and the live rock is "cured" and was purchased at the LFS.

yeah she is an awesome friend, it was a late christmas/birthday gift. I'm definately going to do NaNo-NeWb1983's mod to the chambers I don't really trust those sponges to do the job.
I did a test and below are the results
pH-8.8
Nitrite-0.25 ppm
Nitrate- 20 ppm
Ammonia-between 0 - 0.25 ppm

I can undestand not knowing what blenny to get. I have a bicolor blenny in my 24G and hes pretty cool. My tailspot is in my 8G until my wife's tank is ready and he seems to be out swimming around a lot more then the bicolor does. But they're both pretty entertaining. Lol

So I went to work today to check up on things and I was pleased to see the tank with some brown algae growing in it. The pH and Nitrates are still running kinda high so I'm going to do a partial water change and let it run for about another week and then bring in the Clean up crew. oh and I rearranged the LR and now I know I need more LR... Any suggestions.

I really wanted a green mandarin but after doing my research I know that the chances of it being sucessful in my tank will be be somewhat low. Eh! I still have time until livestock will be going in so I'll look around till then.
